The opening of the Finance and Analytics Lab in the new Learning Commons created an opportunity to move our Associate Member training sessions there and has proven an effective way to showcase the club. We continue to offer 5 training sessions covering basic accounting and practical techniques in security analysis using Factset and Bloomberg. The objective is to give new members the tools and guidance that will enable them to develop, analyze, and pitch their own ideas. Our most experienced Portfolio Analysts support the effort helping teams prepare for the Associate Member pitch competition, more on this below. Fall semester Top Pitch: Ensco PLC Class A – Cole Hyland Fall semester Top Performer: Bio Telemetry – Cole Shandlay Associate Member Pitch Competition Last year we initiated the Associate Member pitch competition to provide more hands-on training to our growing number of younger members. During the club’s training sessions, teams are formed to apply the concepts learned in researching an idea currently in the club portfolio with mentorship from a PA. The teams’ work culminates in a presentation of the idea to the full membership. We had record participation for the Fall 2018 competition with seven teams comprised of 58 Associate Members presenting ideas. The First Solar team was the winner. Congratulations to Brennan Flaherty, David Furlan, Ava Nie, Elena Wallenberg, Jenny Ma, Katelyn Awenson, John Kitaoka, and Leon Pan and their PA mentor Kyle Lindgren!
